Practice Experience
Mr. Foote is a mediator with over 30 years of experience in a broad range of civil litigation. He received his training as a mediator at the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University Law School. Since the Spring of 2005, he has divided his time between an active trail practice and his work as a neutral mediator. Upon closing his trial practice in the Spring of 2008, he has worked exclusively as a neutral mediator. His work as a mediator has included assisting colleagues in resolving personal injury, medical and dental negligence, product liability, employment, construction defect, and commercial cases.

Prior to closing his trial practice, Mr. Foote had extensive experience as a trial lawyer. He primarily represented plaintiffs in cases of personal injury, wrongful death, professional negligence, product liability, toxic tort, sexual harassment, sexual abuse, class action, and commercial litigation.

Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Foote founded and served as the Executive Director of the Natural Resources Law Institute at the Lewis and Clark Law School. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Mr. Foote taught courses in a variety of environmental law/natural resources law areas. Prior to entering the private practice of law, Mr. Foote was a deputy City Attorney for the City of Portland working primarily on regional energy issues as well as defending police officers and other city employees in tort actions.

Professional Highlights
Mr. Foote is a member of the ABA Dispute Resolution Section and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the Oregon State Bar.

Mr. Foote is past president of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and has received that organization’s Distinguished Trial Lawyer Award and Public Justice Award.

Mr. Foote was a founder and since 1986 has served on the Board of Governors of the Public Justice Foundation (formerly the TLPJ Foundation), the foundation supporting the work of Public Justice, a national public interest law firm. He is a former president of that organization and was a finalist for its national Trial Lawyer of the Year Award. In 2006, he was honored by the Foundation as a Champion of Justice, the foundation’s highest honor.

Mr. Foote is listed in the Best Lawyers in America, has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubble, and has been named an Oregon Super Lawyer.
